JCI WORLD CONGRESS 2019
In Tallinn, Estonia
Did you know, that
- humans generate 2.01 billion tonnes of municipal solid waste annually. Without urgent action, global waste will increase by 70% from current levels by 2050 (World Bank, 2018).
- 8.3 billion tons of virgin plastics have been produced to date, half of it is single-used. 91% of produced plastic isn't recycled.
- By 2050, the oceans could have more plastic than fish.
- People eat plastic an amount equal to a credit card per week (WWF, 2019).
The sustainability program JCI World Congress 2019 is related to the United Nations goals:
- GOAL 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
- GOAL 13: Climate Action
We want our conference to be as sustainable as possible! In order to do this we have created JCI World Conference 2019 Sustainability Programme. The aim is to organize our conference as sustainable as possible – to minimize the amount of waste and CO2 emissions.
But, we cant do it without you! We can make a positive change here all together. Take care to sort your trash, take your reusable water bottle and coffee cups with you, don't bring extra stuff with you and take advantage of the great public transportation in Tallinn - it's also free for delegates!
If you want to be part of the most sustainable world congress ever and have not yet registered do it now! Or latest before October 16th!
5 most important commitments we make
1. No conference bags
Around half of conference bags are left behind as waste or not used again after a conference. Good news is that we are not providing you with a conference bag…because we have all the information in digital format! If you need a any bag, we encourage you to take a conference bag from previous conferences, for example of that conference you liked the most.
2. Reusable bottles and coffee cups
We ask you to take with you a reusable water bottle and coffee cup. We provide refilling possibilities and the tap water is not only drinkable but also without any plastic!
3. No single use plastic
We try not to use any single use plastic during the world congress. Therefore we ask not to take with you any single use plastic if you organize a booth at trade show or Global Village. Now straws and balloons- we are not gonna use them and also ask from you not to take them with you.
4. No senseless gifts and giveaways
We ask you not to take gifts with you that are not practical and serve only as your country or organization branded goods. If you want to give a gift we ask you to make it eatable or be sure that the receiver needs and will use it. If you receive a gift that you don't need, don't throw it away or leave it in the hotel room. You can bring it to Pure Magic Second Hand Gift Corner instead.
5. Aim to zero waste
Our goal is to reduce as much as possible the amount of waste generated by the conference. We will separate waste types and send them to recycling. We compost the food leftovers. We collect your badges and linens to reuse them after the conference. Please use your laptops, tablets or phones to make notes from trainings. We are not making printouts unless its absolutely necessary and we are going to reuse all the marketing materials as much as possible.
Helsinki Airport, also known as Helsinki – Vantaa Airport, is located in the city of Vantaa, 17 km north of Helsinki. Is the main airport of Finland that serves Helsinki metropolitan region.
It is also a popular transfer point between Asia and Europe, due it’s geographical location and fast and easy transfers.
After arriving to Helsinki by plane, we would reccomend to catch a ferry to Tallinn. This trip to Tallinn is only 2 hours and you can spend your time shopping, enjoying live music or other entertainment options. Worth your time for sure 🙂
